Full day excursion in a canoe or kayak, the river skirts along the scenic State Route 97 Highway for much of your 12 mile adventure.
Mile 2: You’ll pass under the Barryville Shohola Bridge, a 5th generation bridge that was reconstructed in 2006. After passing the bridge, the river cuts away from the highway, and you will paddle through a remote area rich in scenic beauty and wildlife. Watch for bald eagles, deer, duck, and more. Mile 7: You’ll pass by an eel weir. Tip: The river becomes shallow after this weir. Paddlers who stay far right will pass through without issue. Your half-way through when you see our Indian Head Pond Eddy location on the left. Feel free to stop by and say hello. Bathroom facilities available. Hit the water again for the last 3 miles where will experience Staircase Rapids. When you see the island, head to the left side of the river for our Knights Eddy access to complete the trip.
The most serious paddlers who want an all day paddle. At 5 – 6 or more hours, plan to bring plenty of food and water.
